New York State Groundwater Assessment Each day, ground water directly touches the lives of approximately six million New York State residents, or about one‐third of the state’s population, as their source of residential drinking water using an estimated average gallons per day Size: KB. This complex of wetlands in Dutchess County is the only known location for Blanding's turtle in the New York Bight study area, and one of the few sites in the Northeast. There are about ten known, extant, local populations at these five sites, though this count of ten is somewhat arbitrary, depending on how the population boundaries are drawn.
