Abstract: Storm water management is important to community and ecosystem health, economy, and well-being. A rain garden, a form of a best management practice, is an effective and practical method of storm water management.

Allegheny College is going to build a new rain garden near the newly-reconstructed Allegheny College admissions office. Allegheny College, a liberal-arts college in Northwestern Pennsylvania, signed a pledge to be carbon-neutral by the year Byit is making steady progress in achieving that goal.

Allegheny has made progress in reducing emissions through increased energy efficiency, energy reduction, and the purchase of renewable energy credits.

The Allegheny National Forest (ANF), Pennsylvania’s only National Forest, is approximatelyacres and includes land in Elk, Forest, McKean and Warren counties in the northwestern corner of the State. Aboutacres are forested, 42, acres are non-forest, acres are covered by water (primarily the Allegheny Reservoir).

Regional Cooperation for Water Quality Improvement in Southwestern Pennsylvania. the region’s resources and locational advantages moved it rapidly toward industrial production, especially of iron products. water planning and management in southwestern Pennsylvania is highly fragmented; federal and state governments, 11 counties.

Because population density for the region is highest in Allegheny County, which relies heavily on surface water, the majority of people in the region rely on treated surface water for their drinking water (see Figure ). Major surface water sources of drinking water in the region include the Allegheny River, the Monongahela River, the Ohio.

management in the Pittsburgh region. Compliance with federal and state regulations is the basis for creating monitoring protocol but the committee acknowledges the holistic aspects GSI can achieve beyond just water quality compliance issues.

PWSA’s GITAC Monitoring Su- b Committee drafted 10 GSI monitoring goals with the ideal time of File Size: 2MB. With climate change already generating storms, heat waves, and droughts beyond historical norms, local governments need to do more to prepare.

A decisionmaking framework developed by RAND allows communities to stress-test ideas, weigh the trade-offs, and plan for a range of possible futures.

PENNSYLVANIA WATER RESOURCES. Pennsylvania is a water rich state with approximat miles of streams and rivers connecting overacres of lakes, bays, and wetlands.

Protection of these waters and the groundwater below is a challenging, but vital mission. Pittsburgh, once known for its steel industry, is making an economic transformation as one of the nation’s emerging technology hubs.A report by the Pittsburgh Technology Council estimates that the city is home to nea people working in software- and hardware-related ing to the report, this occupational cluster is expecting to add more than 6, regional employees.

BRIDGING THE SOFT SKILLS GAP As the Pittsburgh region and the nation face the realities of Baby Boomer retirements Preparing young workers is a key element of the Allegheny Conference’s Workforce strategy, chaired by Bill Demchak, chairman and File Size: 1MB.

Water information is fundamental to national and local economic well-being, protection of life and property, and effective management of the Nation’s water resources. The USGS works with partners to monitor, assess, conduct targeted research, and deliver information on a wide range of water resources and conditions including streamflow.
